I watched Perfect Days; I have to admit this; Yes, I judged by the cover; When I first saw this movie’s poster, I thought, "Oh, another hipster movie";I hate these types of movies; A stylistic movie filled with a sensitive vibe, like After Yang;

But after I watched it, I have to admit that this movie still has some very important core;Two parts stood out; First, I like the way it captures the joy of everyday life; Often, this type of movie falls into something deep and highly personal, but it captures that joy of everyday life that many audiences would resonate with;Also, I think this movie reflects the idealistic lifestyle of this generation;

 

And sadly, this makes me understand why I feel uncomfortable with this type of movie;In the past, Lee O-ryeong wrote a book about Japan called The Japanese Mind of Minimization;And I think the concept of minimization best describes the current generation’s lifestyle; While millennials are filled with passion and ambition, this generation lives with constraints, and their default mode is minimization;This is also why The Vegetarian by Nobel Prize winner Han Kang feels like a novel that captures this generation;The fact that I feel uncomfortable with this type of movie probably means I’m becoming a bit old-fashioned;
