20241015 - Normal Distribution and Us

The way society responds to accidents reflects its overall health. In nature, there is a powerful tendency towards normal distribution, which makes accidents inevitable. While every accident is a tragedy, our focus should be on how we respond to those that have already occurred and how we can prevent them in the future.

 

In this regard, a recent report from The New York Times was particularly intriguing. It analyzed the repeated failures of the Secret Service in the U.S., offering a rich and detailed look at the challenges facing the agency today. The report was filled with vivid testimonials, highlighting how poorly the agents are currently treated. Instead of blaming one person in charge, the article took a more in-depth approach, focusing on the systemic issues within the Secret Service.

 

In contrast, when I observe what happens in my home country, especially concerning the tragic death of young soldiers, I feel that the accident is being used as an outlet for anger and grief. No one, not even those who should be responsible, seems to be seriously addressing how to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
