Christopher Alexander was an architect who influenced a variety of domains, not just architecture. Recently, I’ve started reading materials to better understand his philosophy. One of the distinctive characteristics of his ideas is that he was a prominent critic of modernist architecture.

I’m not sure if it was directly mentioned by Christopher Alexander or if it was an example created by the author, but one of the materials I read compared two logos. One had a serif and captured more of the tangible shape of things, while the other was a sans-serif logo that was more minimalistic and simple. Within Christopher Alexander’s philosophy, the former is more appreciated than the latter.

While I agree with many of his ideas, it was somewhat difficult for me to accept that the former logo is inherently better than the latter. In my imagination, Christopher Alexander might say, "Imagine you are surrounded by one of these logos; which one would feel more alive?" While I understand his perspective, the fact that modernism has no place within his philosophy makes me want to find a more complementary approach.
