Watching the conflict between Hybe and Min Hee-jin, I started thinking about the type of company I want to build. This situation highlights a classic conflict between management and the creative group. A clear example of a company siding with management is Microsoft or IBM. Historically, Microsoft was known for its profit-driven management style. In contrast, Apple positioned itself as an innovative and revolutionary counterpart to these companies, successfully cultivating a unique organizational culture. It's hard to imagine an MBA-type leading Apple as CEO.
Other similar rivalries include Disney vs. Pixar, Ford vs. Ferrari, and Paris Baguette vs. Sungsimdang.
It's natural for a company to compromise some of its core values, like passion and creativity, as it grows. This often leads to the sentiment that large companies aren't very different from each other; at a certain size, the structure of the company becomes defining. However, some companies strive to preserve their core values even as they expand. These efforts are usually recognized and appreciated eventually.
I still hold a somewhat naive belief that maintaining core values on a large scale is possible. Entrepreneurs are often seen as those who make the impossible possible. If that’s true, why should I abandon my belief that such a company can exist?
