Seurat had take a quite unique take on painting compared to earlier Modern artists like Monet. Monet was all about capturing the moment, breaking down shape to light and color But Seurat, he though Monet was missing a bit of precision. Taking a leaf out of his book but going deeper,
Seurat wanted his painting to mimic the real interaction between our eyes and the scenes. He broke down the images, analyzed and compartmentalize the color and composition, and how'd they hit the viewer's eye in a super detailed and planned way.
Here's the funny part, ironically while he was trying to get that real-life interaction just right, his painting ended-up being quite unique and less-like real world. They sort of paved way for abstract world, creating a whole new style.
